Messenger is otherwise known as an instant messaging service and a software application. The app originally started as Facebook Chat way back in 2008. However, in 2010, the company upgraded its messaging service and launched instead a standalone iOS and Android applications in August 2011.

This app allows its users to send messages, videos, audios, stickers, files, photos, and the ability to react to other person’s messages. Messenger also features voice and video calling.

Facebook Messenger app allows millions of users to exchange messages to each other. With its regular conversations, the app allows its users to initiate voice calls and video calls whether it may be a one-on-one interaction or a group conversation. The Android app comes with an integrated support for SMS and Chat Heads which are round shaped profile photo icons that appears on the user’s screen. In addition, the app also supports several accounts, conversations that come with optional end-to-end encryption, and Instant Games which are built into the app.

In the United States, other features that include sending money and demanding for transportation are limited. Just this year, Facebook has added a brand new feature called “Messenger Day” that allows user to share their own photos and videos in a story-form. The photos and videos added on the Messenger Day will automatically disappear after 24 hours.

Another feature of this app is reactions, which allows users to simply tap and hold a specific message in order to add a reaction via an emoji. Mentions, on the other hand, allows users in group conversations to type the “@” to ping a specific user a notification.
